June 1 - The garage foundation takes shape

Yesterday, two men from Hall Engineering in Centerville were here in the rain to do a survey which was required by Veridian Credit Union. Everyone (us, the contractors, others) is surprised (except for Veridian) why anyone would require a survey AFTER the foundation is poured. They want to be assured that the house is being correctly positioned on the property. Never have had a good answer why they do it this way. All I know is that we get to pay for it.

Front entry footings.

They walked the wall to locate the structure's position on the property.

Today, the concrete crew was back to set the ICF forms for the garage and the front entry. Now we can see the whole outline of the structure with the garage set at a 45 degree angle to the house.

They also filled most of the lower level with rock. They predict that the basement floor and garage foundation will be poured on Tuesday, June 5. As with most projects, they are behind schedule. They plan to be done by the end of next week.

Instead of the framing starting on June 4 we will be waiting until June 11 or 12. If I hadn't said before, it appears now that the framing will be subbed to an Amish contractor. I hear varying opinions about the work done in this area by Amish workers. Not everyone thinks they are good at what they do. Depends on the crew. I'm trusting my builder to make good choices and closely oversee their work.

Here's the garage!

30 feet deep!

This new ICF outlines the front porch.

Lots of gravel underneath the lower level. Right choice or not, I'm having bubble wrap put underneath the new concrete floor.

Trapper is never very far from Brenda.

View from the north side of the garage looking straight south across the foundation.

Trapper likes riding in the back of the Gator.
